“Fostering Healing through Art”
#BlackTransArtisHealing
Reuniting of African Descendants (R.O.A.D) is partnering with Black Trans Femmes in the Arts (BTFA) to support Black queer, trans and non-binary creatives and entrepreneurs that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVD-19 health crisis. #BlackTransArtisHealing
Often Black Trans + Queer folks are not foreign to hurt, pain, grief, violence, trauma, and marginalization. We collectively recognize that our community consists of differently abled bodies; in which many of us are not able to physically and/or mentally protest. yet many are still feeling the impact of the two-health crisis. Creative Artists are especially feeling the impact of the climate. They are underpaid, underrepresented, yet their art is a form of activism and healing.
We at R.O.A.D. are committed to foster healing through supporting folks in being creative. Jordyn Jay, founder of the BTFA Collective shares that “Not only is creativity healing, but it is also a tool for liberation. When we invest in the creativity of Black trans folks, we are investing in the creation of new futures for our community. The Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective was founded on this ideal, and we are dedicated to providing our community with the resources to create their own pathways to liberation.”
For this reason, we are fundraising to invest in Black Trans & Non-Binary start-up businesses that are artistic, creative, etc. Please Donate!
Why create art as a form of Healing?
Art is activism!
Creating Art promotes:
Self-discovery: Creating art can help individuals acknowledge & recognize feelings that have been hidden in their subconscious.
Self-esteem: The process will give individuals a feeling of self-accomplishment which can be very valuable to improve their self-appreciation and confidence.
Emotional release: The greatest benefit of using art as a form of healing is giving individuals a healthy outlet for expressing and letting go all your feelings and fears. Complex emotions such as sadness or anger sometimes cannot be expressed with words. When an individual is unable to express themselves, but they desire emotional release, making art or being creative may help them to do it.
Stress relief: Creating art can be used to relieve stress, anxiety, depression and/or emotional trauma. It can help individuals relax their mind and body.
Black Trans Femmes in the Arts (BTFA) is a collective of Black trans women and non-binary femmes who are dedicated to creating space for Black trans femmes in the arts. Our collective includes artists from all sectors of the arts, art educators, art administrators, art activists, and art curators.
Reuniting of African Descendants (R.O.A.D) is a grassroots project founded to advance the social and economic well-being of African Descendants, with an urgent focus on queer, same-gender loving people, transgender, and non-binary people, and ultimately the entire community.
